I have been involved in textiles all of my life. From an early age I was making and embellishing my own clothes and spent a year on a weave course at my local Art College, but quickly realised that I was more interested in the surface embellishment. I went on to Loughborough College of Art and Design to do my degree in Textiles / Fashion where I specialised in embroidery. For the following years I made embroidered wall-hangings inspired by poetry, which I called “Poembroidery”, as well as running my own knitwear business, working as a wardrobe mistress and making embroidered bridal wear. In 2001 I won the embroidery category in the British Bridal Awards. I went on to study for my MA at Bath Spa University, where I first discovered the international prestigious Hand and Lock Prize. In 2008 I was awarded the Swarovski Prize and in 2011 and 2013 came second in the Open Prize. I currently make garments, accessories and statement jewellery, incorporating many different embroidery techniques with vintage finds. I also make items of wearable art and enter the wearable art festival Art Couture in Painswick most years. My pieces retain a theatrical element and are perfect for dressing up on and off stage. I have recently opened a showroom/atelier at 19, Suffolk Road in Cheltenham called Atelier 19 with a collective of like-minded designers who all share my ethos of “something old…something new”. Together we can cater for all aspects of your wedding or special occasion and offer a unique bespoke experience
